City of Trees grew from the point where my cityscapes and forest paintings begin to overlap.
I wanted the painting to feel almost disorienting up close: trunks crossing, shapes merging, the eye losing track of where one form ends and another begins. Only from a distance does the perspective begin to settle. What first appears dense and fragmented slowly reveals its own structure.
For me, this work is about perception. Sometimes we are too close to understand what we are looking at. We need distance, time and light before a pattern becomes visible.
