Into the Light is the emotional starting point of Forest Reveries. It was inspired by the local legend of the Kickethauweible, a woman who was banished from her community centuries ago and disappeared into the forest.
What moved me was the question of what remains untold when history is shaped by those who survive, judge and repeat the story. I began to wonder whether the forest, as a silent witness, might hold another version: quieter, more complex, perhaps more compassionate.
Light became central to this work. For me, it stands for life, knowledge and human connection. We bring things into the light when we want to understand them. We gather by candlelight, not in darkness. In this painting, light is not only atmosphere. It is a way of listening, revealing and gently returning dignity to a story that may have been left in shadow.
