Whispers in the Trees is the sister piece to Into the Light. While Into the Light belongs to the beginning of the day, this work is rooted in the atmosphere of evening, when the sun is sinking and the forest begins to hold its breath.
It returns to the legend of the Kickethauweible, but from a quieter, more uncertain place. At sunrise, light may reveal. At sunset, it asks us to listen differently. Shapes soften, shadows grow longer, and the boundary between memory, imagination and presence becomes less clear.
For me, this painting holds the question that first drew me into the forest: is the story still there, somewhere between the trees? And if it is, can the landscape still whisper what human voices have forgotten?
